The KITTS process is split into three distinct areas:

1
Planning
2 Implementation
3 Reviewing

Planning

Preparing the project in advance

Before the business undertakes a KITTS graduate placement the project must be identified by:

  • Establishing what the business wants to achieve from the graduate placement
  • The business must have the relevant resources for the graduate to have access to e.g. IT equipment
Once the above has been decided a project proposal form will need to be submitted to the KITTS Partner and once a graduate has been chosen discussions on payment, health and safety, insurance and supervision will take place. A contract will then need to be signed.

Interviewing and selection

The KITTS Partner will conduct an initial sift of applicants and send a shortlist of graduates for the business to meet and interview.

The business will make the final decision on the choice of graduate

Implementation

During the project - Induction

It is recommended that the graduate is given an induction to the business so he / she understands the structure of the business and the business priorities to achieve maximum project potential. As with any new recruit health and safety and management structure should be included in the induction.

Placement supervision

Although your graduate is expected to work independently from past experience it is recommended weekly review sessions of around 30 minutes take place to ensure the project remains on track.

It is strongly advised that a member of staff takes the responsibility of a placement supervisor and provide appropriate support and monitoring of the project's progress.

Reviewing

Evaluating the project

Evaluation of the project is required to assess whether the programme has had an impact on the business and any potential implications of this impact. It aims to identify how the employment of graduates can add value to the business and how graduates can enhance their employability skills.

The project evaluation form covers both the graduate's performance and the monetary impact of the programme on the business. This information is important as it will allow us to continue to develop our graduates in line with business needs.

Many companies find that the original project identifies other issues within the business which need addressing, and this can lead into another project. If this is the case your business may decide to participate in other University Partner Business Services
